Anime Review: Nana (ナナ)

Hello Everyone!

"Say, Nana... Do you remember the first time we met?" With this powerful question is how the story begins. Nana is wonderfully written as a flashback each episode introduces another chapter on how it all began... and how it lead to where they are now...

What I loved about Nana is that you grow with the characters, you learn to love them. How it just shows you how this lifetime is full of secrets, lies, devastation and so much more. This anime makes you question life in general...

This complex story is for mature audiences, contains sex, drugs and rock and roll ^__^ okay not to much sex or drugs, but it does contain incase you were wondering... I would say [mature] audiences of 16+ could handle it (hardly any, but it does have it).

Nana is not you what you expect to see for the genre Shoujo. Actually the label Shoujo may not even apply to this anime for it's far greater then any Shoujo romance. This anime contains a complicated romances about the life of two girls around the same age whom have totally different personalities end up coexisting in the same world.

In this anime you will experience a whole different type of anime, with the characters whom you will love, each an every character has their secret which is unlocked with each episode. This anime will make all your emotions take effect the minute you watch the first episode and once you hit the last episode you will never want to let it go.

This anime raises many questions and keeps you in deep thought while enjoying this beautifully constructed "drama." A very well written drama, with very wonderful characters and with it's complex, wonderful, melancholy, romance.

SYNOPSIS:

On board the train to Tokyo to meet her boyfriend Shoji, Nana Komatsu (“Hachi”) happened to sit beside Nana Osaki who was traveling to Tokyo to fulfill her dreams of becoming a musician. The vocalist for her punk band “Blast”, Nana aims for a major debut for “Blast” in Tokyo where her boyfriend, Ren, is the guitarist for a popular band “Trapnest”. Sharing the same name “Nana”, both girls quickly form a bond of friendship. Their paths cross again when they encounter each other while searching for accomodation in Tokyo.
