K-Drama Review: Dream High, episodes 1-5

Today I am going to cover Dream High a drama that fits anyone who loves music and dramas.

OMG! OMG! The reason why I am doing a five episode review was because I could not help myself from watching the next episode :O! I just liked it that much I found many of the characters to have memorable personalities. It was just great though I did find it to be a bit violent (not like Boys Over Flowers violent O_o;; lol), but as of now I like the story line and MUSIC!!

Go Hye-Mi (Bae Suzy) is the main character of this musical drama. She is known for her wealth and talent... who has been accepted to Juilliard. Every girl envies her, but what they do not know — not even her best friend/sidekick Yoon Baek-Hee (Ham Eun-Jung). Who later becomes her rival. — about Hye-Mi economical situation... her father's business went down and he borrowed money from the loan sharks who are now after Hye-Mi. Though, Hye-Mi runs away with the protection of Jin-Gook (Ok Taec-Yeon), a childhood friend who she doesn't yet, remember.

This drama in the beginning focuses on each individual character showing their talents and dilemmas. Jin-gook who —at first— is portrayed as a street kid, who is trying to protected Jin-gook for reasons unknown. Yet, giving the viewers a sense of interest on his part. He does mysterious yet, cute things like when he gives Hye-Mi his shoes for, she doesn't walk home barefooted —she threw her shoes at the loan sharks to escape— Jin-gook's father and mother has left him alone since, he was young… making his character very dependent. Though, in the beginning he no longer dances for reasons unknown (I'm guessing the reasons have to do with his father). Later, he is wanted by the director as "special" wanted student to attend Kirin Art H.S.

Yoon Baek-Hee (Hye-Mi's bestfriend/sidekick) in the beginning is portrayed as big fan of Hye-Mi she wishes to go to Kirin Art High School with her but, knows that that won't be for she knows that Hye-Mi was accepted to Juilliard, not until the loan sharks get Hye-Mi and make her sign a contract saying that she is to attend Kirin Art High School or else they will be forced to take her sister. Therefore, Baek-Hee makes a pact that they will get in together no matter what. After Hye-Mi and Baek-Hee sang... the director told them that he will pick only one, But Baek-Hee told him that no matter what they will fail or win together. With Hye-Mi's confidence... she denied the plea and said she will remain there no matter what —Baek-Hee is ignorant of Hye Mi's situation— Talking trash about Baek-Hee singing after, she was passed. Baek-Hee could not believe she was betrayed by her own bestfriend and promised to prove the director right. Making Baek-Hee and Hye-Mi rivals from then on.

Hye-Mi escapes the school with Jin-gook... so the Shark Loans won't know about her "fail". Later, the director makes the chairmen away of his three students who are going to be attending Kirin as well. Theses students are of course Hye-Mi, Jin-gook and Song Sam Dong (Kim Soo Hyun). Song Sam Dong is a teenage boy who lives in the countryside. Who hides his talent (his singing voice) from his mother for he believes that she hates music, because of his father? Hye-Mi travels all the way to get him for she is aware of her situation —they must all attend or risk being denied— Sam-Dong falls hid over heels (lol) for her once he laid his eyes on her. She uses this to her advantage to get him to come with her (he eventually does, with the approval of his mother.)

After everyone even the chairman giving him or her a hard time to attend Kirin the director put his foot down and gave his final word that they will stay then making the chairman into the principle. Before, the director left Kang Oh Hyuk (Uhm Ki Joon) —a schoolteacher who is housing Hye Mi and her sister for the time being— with the students, because of some "Dream High" idea he had when he was younger.

Let the battle beginning. Now that Hye Mi is in the school Baek Hee and other students (who are on Baek Hee's side...of course) are giving her trouble such as throwing eggs (...etc) at her. Baek Hee's started a pulling her Hye Mi's hair in the restroom, because of Hye Mi's comment towards her "fear of her" faking a faint, making Hye Mi look like the bad guy —with Mi's reputation they believed her— Mi finds the pendent the director gave Baek Hee after their audition in her clothes... after the fight... She remembered that he said it was to bring luck at first she did not believe it, but after having such a wonderful day she couldn't give it up.

When Baek Hee claimed Hye Mi of stealing it —after looking for it day and night — of course, Hye Mi denied it (she was going to return it, eventually). Jin-gook, who saw her with it earlier tells her to return it... after denying it again... he takes it out of her pocket... making everyone hate her more. At this point Baek Hee has a crush on Jin-gook for doing this and seeing him dance at night (while she was looking for the pendent.) Everyone became more violent with Hye Mi throwing more stuff and such at her. Making Hye Mi challenge Baek Hee to a battle of scoring higher on the midterms, each will get what they want. Baek Hee will be claimed to officially be better then Hye Mi and Hye Mi will no longer be tortured in school.

Accepting the challenge, the kids have to work hard with the help of Kang Oh Hyuk and Yang Jin Man (Park Jin Young). Hye Mi wins the first midterm test for the instructor takes points off depending on the number of students who are not paying attention to the singer. Baek Hee gets jealous of the fact that Mye Mi passed with 100% that she ruins her locker (at the moment i believe), she tries to hit her with a flowerpot, but when Sam Dong found out that Hye Mi was in danger. He ran to her rescue getting hit with the flowerpot.

MY OVERVIEW:

COMPLICATED MAIN CHARACTER

I found Hye Mi's personality to be very complex and somewhat childish... as of now I don't know if I like her or don't like her... she is just ugggh... complicated...lol... She swiches her personality whenever she feels like it... makes herself look like the bad guy though, she did nothing wrong. Wow... I don't know where I am with her.... I feel bad... but then she does something bad.. haha.. SHE NEVER WANTS TO ASK FOR HELP.... and when she does... she whispers it xDD... But, what I do like about her is that she plays the part of your typical teenager (from what i've experienced xD)

PEOPLE/ THINGS I LIKED

Kim Pil Sook (Lee Ji-eun or IU). She is my favorite character... that I did not mention in the over view >__<;; She is a chubby, cute, adorable, singer (a beautiful voice, may I add.) Who has a huge crush on Jason (Wooyoung) —#1 in Kirin—. She I root for her and Jason not yet in a relationship, but I have a feeling they will!! They showed a small hint that Jason may like her... he gave her... her uniform after Jo In Sung — Jin Guk's bestfriend— made fun of her dress size... she ran as he was doing this... Kim Pil Suk first appeared wearing a sushi mascot costume during the auditions. (That made me like her more!! lol) Another thing I like about her is that she always carries a stuffed "Jason" with her... I thought that was cute! She's awesome.

2. Jin Guk. I love his mysterious ways and the cute things he does for Hye Mi. I love how he is always trying to help Hye Mi without letting her know.
He always has those earphones.

4. Baek Hee innocent look... to bad they got rid of that :(

DISLIKED, NOT REALLY

The personality switch?! I hated the fact that Baek Hee, became the mean girl. Leaving Hye Mi as the semi mean girl...lol... But seriously, expected Baek Hee to out shine Hye Mi talent in some why... not leaving the girl who was always on top, on top... but then again I have to give them props for not keeping the simple storyline of the good girl always wins... this time is the toughest always wins...lol (Well, things can change, I'm barely on episode 6...)
