Taiwanese Film Review: First love (A Crazy Thing Called Love)

สวัสดีทุกคน!
(hello everyone!)

I watched this Thailand movie in May of 2011 (seven months ago).

It was the first Thailand movie I had ever seen and let me just say, it was a whole new experience (comparing it to U.S. romantic comedies).

It's basically about a "crush" you know that one boy/girl you may have had a crush on since middle school s/he may have been the most "popular boy/girl" in school and other boys/girls may have liked him/her and you just never felt pretty enough to confess your feelings (or s/he may have been just a regular boy/girl). Yes! This is what the movie is about beautiful teenage romance, with none of that sex appeal you see in most U.S [romantic] movies or any movie (not including children movies) for that matter. I know, I know most teenagers are more physical now the before.

I truly believe you will enjoy this movie, YES as I've said before (last review)... even if you hate foreign movies or reading subtitles. That doesn't really matter you will learn to love this movie. Especially if you enjoy romantic comedies it is just a beautiful story.

Quick summary: : Girl likes boy, boy is handsome and extremely nice but does not show much interest in girl. Girl is an "ugly duckling" whom does everything in her power to change her appearance (eventually does) for boy. *Quick spoiler* Evidently, this change in appearance and confidence leads to her success. *End of spoiler* Just watch the movie and find out what happens in this lovely romance comedy

I hope you check it out or at least the trailer. (below.)

SYNOPSIS:

First Love is about Nam's crush towards Shone. Nam is introduced as a unpopular, dark skinned, has braces, short hair, wears glasses has no sense in fashion type girl in other words not the type of girl most guys would look twice at. Knowing this...

Nam is Willing to do anything to get him to notice her. Even changing her appearance for him with her friends help following the "9 Easy Steps" from their book.

Throughout, the film you see her devotion for his attention walking by his classroom, volunteering for plays though he never really showed much emotion towards her. Even then she kept changing... hoping that one day he'll likes her.

>>> FAIL<<<

CAST:
Protagonist
Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul as Nam

Nam is introduced as a not-so-pretty type of girl. She has dark skin, wears glasses and has short hair. She has a huge crush on a guy who is in a different class from hers who is known as Shone. She even takes the long way to the bathroom just to pass by his classroom in hoping to see a glimpse of him. She later does everything in her power to change her appearance so he could acknowledge her.

Main Cast
Mario Maurer as Shone

Shone is a cute looking guy who is known by his failure for not making the last goal at the world series, most people make fun at him because of this. Shone is a rather goofy guy who shows no real interest towards Nam when as the film began. (He is unaware that Nam is making severe changes because of him.)

Supporting Cast
Sudarat Budtporm as "Teacher Inn"

Teacher Inn is always competing with teacher Orn for Teacher Phol's attention. She known as Nam's teacher who is a funny, goofball as a teacher.

Supporting Cast
Acharanat Ariyaritwikol as Top

Top is Shone's best friend who later attends the same school as Shone and Nam. He falls for Nam (she looks a bit different by this time) the second he laid eyes on her though he didn't know who she was until Shone told him. Top later goes on dates with Nam where he begins to think that they are dating.

Other Supporting Cast:

Nam's "Click"
  • Tangi namonto as Teacher Phol
